Aim: Inflammatory factors are known as an important mechanism in the occurrence of type 2 diabetes and metabolic diseases; while regular exercise has anti-inflammatory effects and suppresses low-grade systemic inflammation in type 2 diabetes. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of combined exercises with stevia supplementation on serum levels of asprosine, glucose and insulin resistance in obese women with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: 60 women with type 2 diabetes voluntarily participated in the study and were randomly divided into four groups. The subjects of the exercise group participated in selected sports exercises for 12 weeks and three sessions a week. One gram of stevia extract was taken daily, 15 minutes before the main meal. Fasting blood glucose, HbA1C, insulin resistance index and asprosin serum levels were measured. Results: The results of analysis of variance showed that there is a significant difference between the effects of different interventions in the serum levels of asprosine, blood glucose levels, HbA1C and insulin resistance. Combined exercises with stevia supplementation led to a decrease in the serum levels of asprosine in the exercise, supplement, exercise+supplement groups (p<0.001). But these changes were more significant in the exercise + supplement group.
Conclusion: It seems that both intervention methods of combined exercises and stevia supplementation are effective methods in controlling blood sugar and reducing inflammation, and the combination of these two methods is more effective in controlling glycaemia in patients with type 2 diabetes.
